Let's Dive into the Interview!
Can you share a little about your favorite project and how it came about?
It's No Way Out. It is also my most successful map. One day in 2021 I heard about the backrooms, I decided to do it in fortnite some lesser known levels and the lore of it. but, Some time later I got tired of creating because I couldn't publish my maps and show the world what I did, but one day when I was bored I remembered that and I made another map because the one I originally made already bored me too much to do so I thought I'll do it. Make another map but not of the backrooms.I'm going to make it based on the backrooms, from there I made mazes, entities, exits and secrets. I was on level 5, I barely did level 6 and I had no more ideas, I finished making the map again and some time later I came back, but... Fortnite broke my map and it couldn't be fixed unless it was made again and I started another island, with more details, more originality, more entities and more labyrinths. and today that map is published and with 3 levels, I am proud of it.
How do you begin planning your marketing strategy for a new Fortnite game?
I tried to make some trailers and tutorials along with some teasers of the maps and levels that were coming
What channels (social media, forums, websites, etc.) have you found most effective for promoting your games?
Youtube, Twitter, FCHQ and Dropnite.
How do you use visuals (screenshots, trailers, etc.) in your marketing efforts? Can you share an example where this was particularly successful?
Something that I really like when making teasers is lighting and for trailers a combination of music, video and image at the end. but i don't have any successful
Can you share an instance where player feedback or community sentiment influenced your marketing approach?
A person who really liked my map found things on my map that weren't normal and thought it was some kind of event and that's what I did. but at first I was going to leave it as a secret place with nothing to do.
Have you collaborated with other creators for cross-promotion? If yes, how did you approach it and what were the outcomes?
No, I did not collaborate with any other creators. but I would like.
How do you measure the success of your marketing efforts? What metrics do you focus on?
I base it on the analytics of visits, impressions, average time viewed and others.
What could Epic do to make it easier for Fortnite Creators to be more successful?
Give them a try to be at least once in discover and then depending on whether it has had visits or not remove it, leave it or put it in browse
Do you find it hard to market your map, if it never appears on Discovery? If so, why?
Yes, it is difficult, because unless you are famous it is impossible to reach so many people.
Do you find it challenging to compete against large studios who have a massive player base?
No, I see it more as an injustice because more famous teams or creators the second 1 that their island is published appears in Discover.
Lastly, could you share one key piece of advice for new Fortnite creators looking to effectively market their games
Don't do what others do, don't be guided by money either. Do great and original things!
