Top Tips on When to Push a Map Update

CREATIVE TIPS | WHEN TO PUSH AN UPDATE
You just finished, published, and pushed your map to Discovery! You wipe the sweat from your brow - because you have been grinding for days on end to get everything ready! And finally, here you are..at the end game! You log onto Fortnite, take a peek at Discovery, and realize that your map is featured!! Amazing! It's going to be an awesome day!
Or is it? You go into your map just to check to see how everything is going, and oh no! You realize there are a few things you missed - and they need to be corrected FAST! The sweat begins to build up near your brow once again. You begin to think...oh what can I do now?
The first thing to do is not worry. Because we have all been there and we know what you are going through. Pushing updates can be just as stressful as finishing a map, especially if not properly planned. And if your map is featured, and you push the update at the wrong time, it could cause a rift in the progress you had before. If you have ever been here before and ever wondered what you can do, then maybe the next few tips below can help you rethink your process!
Here are Two Tips on When to Push a Map Update!
1 | WHEN PLAYS SLOW DOWN When your map is live or featured, you can view the activity in your dashboard. You will be able to see a wide range of options that will show you how your map is performing. Now, what you want to pay attention to is My Total Active Players and (Show me) Live. Here, you will be able to view when your map receives the least activity. As you are looking through your dashboard, find a time range where your plays have slowed down. This would be your best time to push an update! Since player activity would be low, you will not be in a rush which means fewer mistakes! And let me give an analogy - think of Discovery as a very busy highway, and your map is a car. When you push an update, your map is exiting the highway(Discovery) and goes through an approval process. Which can take a matter of minutes to hours depending on what your map has going on. When approved, your map has to get back on the highway(Discovery), which is already very busy. All the other maps that have not left the highway(Discovery) are progressing and have full lobbies. They may have reached their destination already. That is why pushing when activity is low, may give you a better chance to get back to where you started, back on the highway! Back to building up activity!
This is perhaps one of the best analogies I can provide for this type of situation. And I hope it gives you a bit of understanding as to what could be happening whenever you push an update on your map.

2 | EMERGENCIES If there are complaints from the player base about significant problems with the map, this should be addressed urgently! Major issues are those that affect the player experience in a very bad way. Missing barriers, broken teleporters, the wrong game settings for the map type... and more. These issues need to be addressed immediately upon finding them! Take note of all the suggestions, or experiences that your community shares with you and create a bug report of your own. If you are fairly new and don't have a large community yet, then test your map regularly - especially when players are in there and take note of what you see. At any time you see something that affects the value of gameplay, then you should fix it and push the update immediately.
