Epic Games’ New Engagement Payout Metrics

EPIC GAMES' NEW ENGAGEMENT PAYOUT METRICS

Ever since Epic Games launched its engagement payouts in March 2023, it has become a cause for celebration for creators. The new endeavor has already had a significant impact on creators' earnings and promises even more exciting prospects in the upcoming April payout.

KEY CHANGES

Epic Games announced some key changes to the engagement payout metrics aimed at further increasing creator earnings. A highlight of these changes is the introduction of a "time played" metric. With this new metric, creators will be rewarded based on the duration that players spend on their islands. This change reflects Epic Games' commitment to adjusting to the current state of tools within Fortnite's creator ecosystem and aligning with their future roadmap.

EPIC WILL FOCUS ON TIME PLAYED

While player popularity and retention metrics will continue to be considered in island performance, Epic Games is now reducing their weighting in engagement payouts. Instead, emphasis will be placed on the "time played" metric. However, this weighting adjustment is not fixed, and the company plans to recalibrate these metrics over time. They aim to equip creators with additional tools like persistence and analytics to aid user retention and acquisition.

NEW WAYS TO PROMOTE IN THE WORKS

Epic Games continues to develop features that will simplify promoting islands beyond the Fortnite ecosystem. Enhanced user acquisition analytics in the Creator Portal and persistence-building tools for creator-made games are some of the planned features. This signals Epic's commitment to improve user retention and bring players back to creators' islands.

TOP EARNERS WILL EARN EVEN MORE

The engagement payouts have already shown promising results. March's payout marked a significant increase in earnings for the majority of creators compared to the earnings from Epic’s Support-A-Creator program. There was an impressive 5.2x median increase in earnings for the top 1000 island creators through engagement payouts compared to the Support-A-Creator program.

Moreover, April’s upcoming engagement payouts promise to be even more exciting. Starting May 30, the payouts will reflect the new changes in the payout formula and will result in a further increase of 1.45x in total money paid to creators compared to March.

EPIC'S COMMITMENT TO NUTURE CREATIVITY

The enhancements to Epic Games' engagement payouts certainly make for exciting news for creators. It is a testament to Epic's commitment to nurture and reward creativity.
