Epic Lays Off Thousands Of Staff.

Epic Games Lays off thousands of staff!
Today, Epic Games has announced that they will be laying off over a thousand employees in a bid to help keep the company afloat and funded. Through this, Epic aims to save over $500 million USD.
What is the cause for the layoffs?
Fortnite blames the lack of engagement and slow player base growth in Fortnite, from as far as 2025 β which has eaten into their profits.
Epic also blame weaker spending from Fortnite players, rising economic costs and other games putting up stronger competition against Fortnite.
Tim Sweeny, CEO of Epic Games, stresses that none of these layoffs are because of AI.

Whatβs Epics Short Term Goals to resolve this?
Epic have announced that to revive community hype and increase spending, they need to:
- Build Awesome Fortnite Experiences
- Add fresh, fun and innovative updates to Fortnite
- Focus on the Fortnite story and live events
- Work on UE6 and UEFN
This Isnβt Epicβs First Rodeo
Epic have stated that they have been in this tough situation a few times including in the 1990βs with the move from 2D to 3D in UE1 and in 2012 with the market rush for online gaming.
The Staff Affected
Epic have announced all staff affected will receive at least 4 months severance pay and at least 6 months of paid healthcare coverage.
The Team at FCHQ sympathise with the staff who have been made redundant at Epic today, and only give them our heartfelt gratitude.
We also hope that Epic will be able to recover quickly, and the loss of these staff will not affect the quality of future updates.
