A huge win for creators - Fortnite announces huge monetisation changes.
Today, Epic have announced some huge changes to how monetization will work going forward in the Fortnite ecosystem.

Microtransactions
In December, creators & developers will be able to sell items inside of their Fortnite experiences for vbucks.
This is huge!
From December 2025- December 31st 2026 - Creators will keep 100%** of these transactions. Thereafter, creators will keep 50%**
Epic will calculate this by:
- Take all customer real money spending to purchase vbucks
- Subtract platform and store fees
- Divide the total vbucks spent by players
- **Epic claim that store fees range from 12-30%. Therefore, if this is applied, creators will keep approximately 74% before 2026 and 37% thereafter.
Creators will offer purchases by new UEFN tools and a verse-based API.
Epic state their creator take home pays are much higher than Roblox’s 25%

Engagement payout updates
The 40% share is sticking around… however, creators that bring in new or lapsed players will receive 75% of their engagement payout pool for their first six months.
Epic will also factor in signals from links, searches in game and play patterns when identifying new or lapsed players.
Finally, Epic will now reward island specific retention, instead of ecosystem wide retention, to help smaller creators.
Note: to combat fraud, epic will only consider players for engagement payouts if they have made purchases on their accounts. Epic state this will not reduce engagement payouts but will just “shift” where the earnings come from.
Therefore, the engagement formula now considers:
- Minutes Played
- New User Acquisition
- Lapsed User Acquisition
- Playtime Surrounding V-Bucks Spend
- Island Retention
Sponsored Row in discover
Get your credit cards ready, because Epic are adding a new sponsored row into discover.
Starting in November, will be a row where you can bid to be guaranteed for a place in discover.
Creators will also be able to bid for placement in the sponsored role itself.
